Barkley Sound
Barkley Sound is the wild heart of Vancouver Island's west coast — a vast, island-studded body of water where the Alberni Inlet meets the open Pacific. It's where we fish, where the whales feed, and where the Broken Group Islands scatter across the horizon.
The Sound's structure — reefs, kelp lines, offshore banks and a hundred-plus islands — makes it one of the most productive marine environments in British Columbia. Chinook and coho stage here before their river runs, halibut hold on the gravel banks, and humpbacks lunge-feed through the summer bait balls.
GrayStone runs fishing charters, whale watching and Broken Group Islands tours throughout Barkley Sound daily in season. Our captains have thousands of hours on this water; when the weather shifts — and on the west coast it will — they know every bolt-hole and back channel to keep the day comfortable and productive.
